Concept, web design and development

The making-of

From sketch to live site.

Every website we make starts on paper. First we sketch the layout and the tone, then we build the design in code, down to every pixel and hover state.

  1. 01
    Sketch

Layout, headings and buttons start on paper, with notes on the grid and typography.

  2. 02
    Code

The design becomes hand-written code, with its own colours, typefaces and animations.

  3. 03
    Live

Tested on phone, tablet and desktop, then launched at emagbv.nl.

Sketch, code, result: the Emag website in 19 seconds.

The brief

Greenhouse staffing, with a personal touch.

The question

Emag B.V. supplies experienced workers to growers in the Westland region and around Aalsmeer, from bunching chrysanthemums to harvesting tomatoes. The new website had to serve two audiences at once: growers who need extra hands fast, and people looking for work in the greenhouse.

Our approach

We went for a calm, editorial style in the colours of the greenhouse: deep green, lime and a warm paper tone. Heavy, condensed headlines paired with an elegant italic give the site its character. Right on the homepage, visitors choose their path: "I'm looking for work" or "I'm looking for staff".

Brand & UI

One set of buttons, the same feel everywhere.

We designed a dedicated set of buttons and elements for Emag. On hover, lime green slides up into the button and the arrow nudges forward. The menu, links, forms and WhatsApp button follow the same rules, so the whole site feels like one piece.

  • Ink #102B20
  • Emerald #1D7347
  • Lime #84BA4E
  • Paper #F2F4E8

Headlines in Archivo, condensed and heavy. Accents in Newsreader italic. Buttons 52 px tall: big enough for a thumb on a phone.

What makes the site work.

Visit the website
  • A headline that moves with the crops

The big headline on the homepage cycles through the crops: from chrysanthemum to potted plant and beyond.

  • Work by crop

Chrysanthemums, potted plants and fruit & veg each get their own overview of every task.

  • Two clear paths

Job seekers and growers see straight away where to go, each with their own button and their own story.

  • Trust up front

Quality marks such as SNA and NBBU sit right in the top bar of every page.

  • Built for the phone

Large buttons, a calm menu and a WhatsApp button that is always within reach.

  • Subtle motion

Text and images ease into view as you scroll, without ever getting in the way.
